From our pick up points at Penrith and Castle Hill we officially hit the road to discover the brilliant wine range and experience what the hunter region had to offer. The Road Trip kicked off with another theme being 'Burlesque and Masquarade'. What an awesome sight and what fabulous ideas for things to bring and wear for the theme! Yes yes yes we carried the theme through at our after pyjama party - but that part of the trip will remain a mystery! Once again it was an exciting trip with lots of trivia, games, prizes, give-aways, dancing, awards and making friends with such a wonderful group.
Saturday about 12 noon the group arrived at Potters Brewery for our private group beer tour and taste testing. Some really interesting facts and some great tasting beer, a personal favourite was the Oyster Beer, yum! We then stayed for lunch before we moved over to Hunter Valley Gardens to enjoy a little bit of shopping and browsing some of the interesting stores. It is always nice to see those one of kind items.
After a little bit of a bump in the Road at HVHA we all finally checked into our rooms to unpack and get ready for dinner and a dance night at Weston Workers. Many thanks to HVHA for the wine for all, it did help to lessen the disappointment for those that could not gain access to their rooms at the time of checking in. Many thanks to Kenneth and his team at Cai Catering for his consistency in providing very large meals and stocking us all up for a big night!
Our favourite guys from the Midnight Drifters exceeded our expectations and were on fire. Thanks for keeping everyone on the dance floor and on a side note - thanks to Craig for playing G-L-O-R-I-A...Midnight Drifters you truly ROCK 'n' ROLL and we are so looking forward to many more gigs. Visit the Midnight Drifters website for more updates and gigs CLICK HERE.
A big shout out to the Weston regulars and thanks for making us feel welcome. To Brian Bean and Linda Baker, it was lovely to see you both again and to share your wonderful club. We wish you both well and hope that the club keeps rocking with you.
On the Sunday, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at HVHA then checked out to hit the road for a full day of wine and beer tasting and of course eating! There are just too many people to thank and going on feedback received the Sunday was very enjoyable even our visit to Tulloch Wine proved to be interesting with some great Johnny O'Keefe memories as told by our Wine Host. Here is a list of all the fabulous places we were able to visit on the Sunday:
Hunter Resort and Blue Tongue Brewery - once again thank you for our very humourous, active, engaging and informative group tour
Australian Regional Food Store and Cafe - thanks to the team for looking after us very well! Great BBQ lunch, great coffee and very informative cheese education, cute shop and we even did some wine tasting at the Small Wine Makers Centre. This place was peaceful with their very own lake and provided us with a lovely break and great photo opportunities. We even made some new friends with the local ducks.
Tulloch Winery - thanks to the staff and our wine host for servicing us well and providing us with an entertaining and informative private group wine tour.
McGuigans Cellar - always a top spot to visit and it was so lovely to catch up with Steve and all the girls. They honestly, look after us all very well and have excellent customer service, presentation and a clean and friendly atmosphere at their cellar.
Roche Wines - Tempus Two and the Smelly Cheese Shop - this was a DIY stop and many just enjoyed the break and the serenity at this property before the big ride back to Sydney. Some got stuck into the great tasting Gelato and many enjoyed a browse around the shop and a coffee.
Take care and thank you to the wonderful boys and girls, men and women who joined us for our 2012 Road Trip. We sincerely apprecaite you all having faith in our ability to treat you well, take care of you all being able to experience good times. Officially, we are taking at least a year off from organising overnight trips as we have many many more adventures planned and we look forward to your continued support and participation.
